What the Women in Your Ward Really Want for Mother's Day
By Becky Squire
Mother's Day can be tricky when trying to figure out how to celebrate the women in your ward. Many women truly just crave is something deeper—rest, recognition, and connection to Christ. So, if you’re wondering how to truly honor the mothers, grandmothers, and women who mother in your ward, here’s what they really want this year.
To Feel Seen in Their Sacred Role
Motherhood in all its forms is divinely ordained. What women really want is to know their efforts matter. Consider giving each sister a handwritten note from the Relief Society presidency or bishopric expressing appreciation for her unique contribution to the ward and the kingdom. Share how you’ve personally seen her reflect the Savior’s love in her daily life.
Even better? Pair that note with a small Christ-centered keepsake like these temple magnets.
The Gift of Connection
Many moms are so busy helping others that their own spiritual replenishment takes a backseat. One thing our ward (and many others) does on Mother's Day is to coordinate with the men and have them take over all callings for second hour. That way the Relief Society sisters and Young Women can gather and have a short lesson or socialize, or both! Provide some cookies and a drink to make it extra special.
Gifts with Eternal Symbolism
If you are looking to give a physical gift that aligns with gospel values, consider meaningful keepsakes that point to the temple and eternal covenants. Here's some of my favorites:
Words that Build Up
Heartfelt notes often mean more than the most expensive gift. Invite the youth or ward members to write short, sincere notes to the women in their lives who have influenced them for good. This includes not just mothers, but teachers, leaders, and friends.
Idea: Create a “Wall of Women” in the Relief Society room—a simple bulletin board filled with affirmations and testimonies of women’s influence in the ward.
Christ-Centered Home Resources
Many women are trying to create a Christ-centered home. Gift them a Christ-focused family resource like a "Come, Follow Me" study guide, a scripture journaling kit, or framed Christ-centered artwork.
Idea: Print uplifting artwork of the Savior to give out with a scripture quote attached.
This Mother’s Day, let’s move beyond token gifts and offer something that feeds the soul. Whether it's a temple keepsake, a handwritten note, or time to reconnect with Christ—these are the gifts that endure.
